When you think of pop stars and rock stars, who do you see? Is it Madonna? Usher? Was it Elvis, or Billy Idol maybe? Well, what about an influential artist breaking boundaries, combinding media, and pushing your buttons all while doing it. A great article I read by Cynthia Rose, called Designing His Own Celebrity: Typographer Neville Brody, did an amazing job of seeing Brody as a pop star in his own right.
He created an empire for himself.
As Brody likes to say, “If you have an idea, you make it happen.” And he did. Not only did he bring a normally behind-the-scenes-job to the foreground, he is known around the world for his designs in art and typography. He mingles with the crowds in music and fashion and has been featured in magazines to museums. He is the embodiment of Britain’s main exports, fashion, style and image. From that to his ever evolving talent, he will always be a popstar for the new arts.
